Understand DNS propagation

Why a website may look different after a DNS change.

Step by step

  1. DNS resolvers cache records for their configured time to live (TTL). Updating a record does not immediately clear every cache.
  2. Confirm that the change was made at the authoritative DNS provider and that the domain uses the intended nameservers.
  3. Compare the apex domain and www records. Avoid repeated changes while troubleshooting.
  4. Check from another network or resolver. Clear local DNS/browser caches when appropriate.
  5. Send support the domain, records changed, time of the change, and any error message if the problem persists.
